In January of 1861 Abraham Lincoln visited Coles County for what would be the last time. Bound for Washington, the president-elect joined his beloved stepmother and extended family for a meal at the house belonging to his step-sister Matilda Johnston Moore. Part of the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site campus, the house is currently closed but there is a historic marker and interpretive signage on site.
